In this step-by-step video course, Johnny transfers 20+ years of real workplace experience to Lucy, a complete beginner.

By the end, we believe you will be better at Excel than most people. Which is going to be increasingly important as more people use AI to make spreadsheets. They'll have no clue how anything works. Terrifying.

But this isn't Johnny.Decimal?

This is the first course we made together so it has a special place in our hearts. It was meticulously planned and took us a year.

While it isn't about Johnny.Decimal it feels Decimal adjacent, so we've added it to JDU.

And it really works. Lucy knew essentially nothing about Excel at the start and was doing all sorts of professional stuff by the end.

The format

The course comprises:

• 14 hours of video across 67 lessons,
• Summary sheets and quizzes,
• Exercise spreadsheets and sample data sets,
• Real-time problem-solving.

We use a Mac with Office 365. If you're on a PC, we highlight any differences where relevant.

The fundamentals you need

Johnny took a lot of care preparing the curriculum. It covers a manageable range of fundamentals, without the stuff you don't need.

We start easy, go slow, and build each lesson on the last. Here's a brief overview.

After pack 1 you will:

• Understand data types, functions and formulas, and beginner cell referencing.

After pack 2 you will:

• Understand layout and printing, the fill handle, borders and formatting, tables, charts, errors, and error checking.

After pack 3 you will:

• Understand importing data, advanced cell referencing, VLOOKUP, pivot tables, conditional formatting, naming cells, validating data, and find and replace.

Business Class:

• These bonus lessons show techniques for solving some common work problems using realistic, messy data. They really pack a punch.
